Piper Shores and Holbrook Welcome Michael Bierley as Executive Director.

Scarborough, Maine, December 29, 2009 – Piper Shores, Maine's first and only nonprofit lifecare retirement community, today announced Michael Bierley as its Executive Director. Mr. Bierley brings more than twenty-six years of progressive management experience in all phases of senior services to the position. Throughout his career, Bierley has been committed to improving the quality of lives of older adults by providing innovative, cost-effective programs and services that allow seniors to live their lives with maximum independence and dignity.

As Executive Director at Piper Shores, Bierley is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial, marketing and strategic planning operations of the entire community while providing guidance to the employees and support to the residents of Piper Shores. He will also serve as the primary conduit between Life Care Services, LLC, a leader in retirement community management, and the Piper Shores Board of Directors.

"We have a terrific team here at Piper Shores, and I am looking forward to working with our management, staff and residents to develop new and exciting programs to ensure Piper Shores maintains its stellar reputation as the destination lifecare retirement community for independent living with access to high quality care."

Prior to joining Piper Shores, Bierley most recently served as the Senior Vice President at Alchester Development and Sea Coast Management Company. Before relocating to Maine, he spent thirteen years as the president of the Highlands at Pittsford, a Continuing Care Retirement Community and twelve years as Senior Vice President at Park Ridge Long Term Care, both in Rochester, New York. Bierley is also a regular presenter at American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) annual meetings and has published articles about long-term care. He is a member of AAHSA, NYAHSA, RAAHSA and a past Board Member of NYAHSA.

Bierley earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in Health Administration from SUNY at Brockport, a Masters of Arts (MA) in Social Gerontology from Western Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Sociology from St. Joseph’s College. He has also earned Certificate in Advanced Senior Care Management from The Johns Hopkins University.
