Piper Shores Board of Directors
The following individuals from the Greater Portland business and nonprofit communities currently serve as the volunteer Board of Directors for Piper Shores.
Catherine Cloudman, Chairman
President of Cloudhawk Management Consultants. Catherine specializes in helping family-owned and closely-held businesses develop strategies and implement plans that maximize enterprise value, as well as, measure that value. She has served on task forces to the AICPA’s National Business Valuation Sub-committee assisting in exam development and conference planning. After practicing as a public accountant in the Boston office of KPMG Peat Marwick, Catherine obtained her Masters in Business Administration from Boston College. She received her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University. Catherine served on the Board of Opportunity Farm for Boys and Girls for over 10 years. She co-chaired the Gannet Family Business of the Year Awards Program and served on the Advisory Board of the Institute for Family Owned Business. Catherine is a member of the Advisory Board of PCA Great Performances and also serves on the Board of Piper Shores.
Richard Roderick, Vice Chairman
President of Dead River Company, the largest provider of residential heating fuels in Northern New England and has a commercial real estate portfolio value in excess of $350 million. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BA in Accounting and received his MS in Computer Systems Management from the US Naval Postgraduate School. He is a board member and President of the Cancer Community Center, and Past Treasurer of the Maine Association of Nonprofits. He serves on the University of Maine Business School Advisory Committee and the Gorham Saving Bank Board of Directors.
Patrick O’Reilly, Treasurer
Patrick O’Reilly is a Tax Accountant with MacDonald Page & Co. He specializes in real estate partnership returns and transactions, multi-state and complex corporate returns and business valuations and information systems consulting. He is a member of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board Advisory Council and a member of the National League of Cities Finance Steering Committee. In addition he volunteers his time as a member of the Scarborough Town Council where he is the chair of the finance and budget committee. He is also a board member of the Scarborough Public Library. He attended the New York University Stern School of Business. He and his family own and operate the Pride Motel and Cottages in Scarborough.
Deborah M. Mann, Secretary
Deborah Mann is an attorney with the Portland, Maine law firm of Jensen Baird Gardner & Henry in which she is a director and member of the Management Committee. She is a civil litigator, doing commercial litigation in state and federal courts, with specialties in construction law and probate litigation. She is also an arbitrator, certified by the American Arbitration Association, resolving commercial disputes in the New England region. She is listed in the “Best Lawyers in America” and has an “AV” rating, which is the highest possible rating, from the Martindale Hubbell listing service. Debbie is a past member of the Board of the YWCA, Portland, United Way Allocations Committee and Maine State Bar Association Quality of Practice of Law Committee and Membership Benefits.
Suzanne Austin
Suzanne was the Executive Director of The Board Network (TBN) for 5 years before the merger of TBN and the Institute for Civic Leadership (ICL) in 2006. She continues to lead the nonprofit board programs for the new ICL, including development of all board education workshops and delivery of many of the sessions, oversight of the board matching program, and an increasing number of presentations and consulting engagements with nonprofit groups across Maine. Prior to joining The Board Network, for 15 years Suzanne was president of J. Weston Walch, Publisher – an educational publishing company in Portland. She worked in trade publishing in New York City before returning to Maine. She is a graduate of Drew University, in Madison, New Jersey. Suzanne has had experience reporting to boards (at Walch and at The Board Network), as well as serving as a volunteer on boards (currently on the boards of MaineHealth and Maine Public Broadcasting Network).
Newell Augur MD
Retired gastroenterologist. Former Director, Division of Gastroenterology, Maine Medical Center, Past President of the Medical Staff. Former Trustee of the Maine Medical Center and Director, Physicians of Cumberland County, United Way; State YMCA Camp; Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Patrick Costin
Patrick S. Costin, AIA, LEED AP is a principal at Harriman, a 137 year old ninety person architecture and engineering firm with offices in Auburn and Portland, Maine. He has an undergraduate degree in art history and philosophy from Lake Forest College and Master of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. As a graduate fellow, he studied art and architecture in London and Florence, Italy. A registered architect in seven states, he previously owned his own firm, with offices in Vermont, Massachusetts, and Florida. He is the Studio Leader of the firm’s Healthcare Design Studio based in Portland. A LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional, Patrick has been instrumental in Harriman’s efforts to incorporate sustainable design principles into all of the firm’s work. The Portland office designed the USM John Mitchell Center, the first Maine architect designed LEED certified building in the state of Maine. He is a Board Member of the Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council and a Founding Member of the Portland Society of Architects. He also serves on the Construction Management Advisory Panel at the USM Department of Technology. Patrick’s design experience encompasses a wide range of building types and projects which have been recognized for design excellence regionally and nationally. Notable recent work includes an expansion of the Maine Medical Center Research Institute, the Maine Center for Reproductive Health and Maine’s first hospice house for Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn, Maine. Patrick lives in South Portland with his wife Paula and two sons, Thomas and Jacob.
James Harnden
James Harnden is the President of Ram Harnden Commercial Real Estate Services, a full service commercial real estate brokerage company. Ram Harnden is a relationship-based firm that works with clients to handle their office, industrial, retail, investment sales, multi-family properties, leasing, tenant representation and consulting needs. Jim currently serves as a Board Member of Maine & Company, Morrison Developmental Center, The Cumberland Club and The Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire, majoring in business administration with a minor in real estate.
Mary Keysor
Mary Keysor is the Director of Nutrition Services at Maine Medical Center in Portland. During her tenure at MMC, she has implemented many programs to increase customer service and satisfaction. Some of those services are the room service program for the birthing unit, a Mediterranean Café in the ambulatory health center and the cook/chill production. She has a Masters Degree in Adult Education from the University of Southern Maine and a Bachelors Degree of Science in Dietetics from the University of Wisconsin. She is a member of multiple professional associations and has been recognized for her outstanding work over the years by dozens of organizations.
Suzanne McCormick
Suzanne McCormick began her career in the nonprofit sector twenty years ago as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand. Upon returning to the United States she led a large volunteer program at the International Center in New York City. Suzanne moved to Maine in 1994 and served in several senior level positions at the United Way of Greater Portland including Vice President of Agency Relations and Vice President of Major Gifts & Planned Giving. In 2002 she joined the American Red Cross of Southern Maine where she served as Senior Program Director and then CEO until 2007. In April of 2008, Suzanne was hired as the President & CEO of the People’s Regional Opportunity Program, Cumberland County’s Community Action Agency. Suzanne is a graduate of Duke University. Suzanne serves as a Trustee of the Portland Provident Association and is on the Boards of the Ronald McDonald House and Greater Portland Council of Governments.
Dennis J. O’Donovan
Dennis J. O'Donovan is a partner in the law firm of Epstein & O’Donovan, LLP, in Portland. His practice is concentrated in the areas of estate, gift and income taxation. Dennis prepares wills and trusts of all types, assists clients with the administration of estates and trusts, advises individuals on business succession planning, represents parties in probate and trust litigation matters, counsels individuals involved in guardianship and conservatorship matters and advises charitable organizations. He received his B.S. in Finance from the University of Maine at Orono in 1985 with honors and high distinction. He spent 3 years working as a Commercial Loan Officer for Maine National Bank prior to attending law school. Dennis graduated cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law in 1991. He is a member and past Chair of the Trusts & Estates Section of the Maine State Bar Association and is on the Board of Directors of the Maine Estate Planning Council and the University of Maine Foundation. Dennis, his wife, Anne, and their two daughters live in Cumberland.
Richard Roy
Registered Representative and Financial Planner with Northeast Planning Associates, Inc. and LPL Financial, an Independent Broker/Dealer; Dick is also a CPA; former Director at Macdonald Page & Co., LLC, and now serves as consultant to select small business and individual tax clients; Former Board member of MaineHealth and Brighton Medical Center; former Chair of the Windham Town Council; former member of the Maine Board of Accountancy; Graduate of the University of Maine, Orono.
